In the Pocket Baby Review and Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. The winner, chosen by random.org, is...

#54, Kirby C.

I have sent an email with further instructions. Please reply within 72 hours or another winner will be drawn.

Down south, we don't normally have fancy wedding receptions. We just serve cake and punch and hors d'oeuvres (I had to look that one up, and spell check is still telling me it's wrong.) Anyway, what does all this have to do with In the Pocket Baby?

Well, we went up north (Wisconsin to be precise) this summer for a wedding, and they do things a little differently up there. Wedding receptions consist of a sit-down dinner served on fine china. Many times children are not even invited to weddings. Still want to know what all this has to do with In the Pocket Baby? Just wait, I'm getting to it.

Little Bear was asked to be the ring bearer in the aforementioned wedding, so of course he had no choice but to attend. He and the Ladybug were the only children at the reception. Thankfully, Little Bear's aunt took charge of feeding him. I was still left with the Ladybug, though, who could not sit up extremely well at the time. She's also terrible about grabbing things. How was I supposed to sit down and eat without Ladybug grabbing china off the table? The tables were so close together that there was no room to set her down on the floor.

In the Pocket Baby to the rescue! I pulled out this neatly folded contraption, unfolded it, and strapped it to the chair beside me. There! Ladybug had her own place to sit, and I could eat my meal without having to worry about keeping her from breaking anything. I did not know anyone at my table, but everyone immediately started talking about the baby seat and wanting to know where I got it, how it works, etc. Since I know you would have been asking the same questions if you had been there, I'll tell you a bit more about it.

What I like:

  • It is very portable. It folds up very small so that I can keep it in the diaper bag (or in my pocket!)
  • It comes with instructions printed right on the seat. I don't have to worry about remembering how to strap it on the chair correctly.
  • It is sturdy. I'm not nervous that my heavy little girl will rip it and fall out of her chair.
  • The front flap comes up nice and high so that there is no way Ladybug will be able to squirm out of it.
  • The straps are easily adjustable so that it can be fastened tightly to any chair.
What I didn't like:
  • It was a little more complicated to fold back up than it was to unfold! I couldn't get it folded up quite as small as it was when I first got it, but I still got it folded plenty small enough to fit it easily into the diaper bag.
Below is a video of ladybug playing peek-a-boo under the table while sitting in her baby seat. Even with all her wiggling, I was not concerned at all about her security.

Noodle Head
Little Bear recently had the opportunity to try out one of these adorable Travel Buddies courtesy of Noodle Head. I let him pick out which one he wanted, and he chose the lion. We took an 18 hour trip recently, and needless to say, there was a lot of sleeping taking place on the way! Little Bear used his Travel Buddy every time he went to sleep.Travel_BuddiesWhat I liked:

  • There are a lot of different animal choices, all of which are very cute. There is something to fit everyone's likes.
  • Travel Buddies allow Little Bear to sleep in the car without his head bobbing all over the place.
  • Travel Buddies double as a stuffed animal that kids can play with in the car.

Intelligent First Aid Review and Giveaway ($150 Value)

This giveaway is now closed. The winner, chosen by random.org, is...

#595, Georgie C.

I have contacted the winner by email, who will have 72 hours to reply before another winner is chosen.

As a mom, I try to make sure I am prepared for any situation that could occur. I especially want to be prepared for any emergencies that may arise. I have gone through books and magazine articles spelling out various procedures like CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver. But I have often wondered if I would actually have the presence of mind to remember these things should my children ever be involved in a real emergency.
When I came across the Talking First Aid Kits from Intelligent First Aid, I knew I would feel a lot more comfortable having something like that handy.

The folks at Intelligent First Aid graciously sent me one of their Talking First Aid Kits to review.
What I liked:

  • There are 9 different packs included: Breathing/CPR; Bleeding; Shock; Head & Spine; Bones; Eyes; Burns; Bites & Stings; and Basics. I feel confident that whatever injury occurs, all the necessary supplies are readily available and easy to find.
  • Each pack contains a talking card that will talk you step-by-step through the procedures needed to care for each injury.
  • The kit comes in a handy case with dividers for each pack. None of the supplies become mixed-up this way, and it is easy to find what you need quickly. The case also makes it easy to take the kit on-the-go so that you can be prepared for emergencies while you're away from home.
What I'd change:
  • I honestly can't think of anything about this kit that I didn't like. It is very handy and I feel totally prepared should any injuries take place at or away from my home.

Buy it: You can purchase the Talking First Aid Kits from the Intelligent First Aid website.

Win it: One winner will receive a Talking First Aid Kit, compliments of Intelligent First Aid.

To enter: Just enter your name and email address in the form below. For 3 extra entries, subscribe to The Deal Scoop in one of the following ways:
  • By email (you must verify your subscription)
  • Google Friend Connect (right sidebar)

This giveaway will close on July 30, 2010.

Disclosure: Intelligent First Aid provided me with a free product to review and one to give away to a reader. All opinions are 100% my own.

Deals from My Inbox : Denny's Coupon and $5 Free

A couple things I thought of while I was checking my email today:

  • I got a printable coupon from the Denny's Rewards Program for $5 off a $15 purchase. This will be perfect for date night! Go here to sign up for the rewards program and receive future coupons.

  • I always get junk email from magazines.com, but every so often they send out an email that says something about a free $5 gift code. (Not to be confused with $5 off coupons they periodically send out.) If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the email, there is a place to click and opt to receive your $5 gift code in the form of a $5 check! I just cashed a $5 check today that I received from them! Go to magazines.com and look on the lower left hand side of the page to sign up for their email newsletter. Then start watching for some not-so-junky junk mail!
