Shenzhen Knives Review and Giveaway

I was given a knife set for my wedding that I have been more than happy with, so I must admit that I did wonder what was so special about Shenzhen Knives.

I received a 6" Ceramic Chef's Knife to review, and when I first opened it, I was rather skeptical.

I should have remembered that looks can be deceiving. Because the knife is ceramic, it doesn't appear to be very sharp, and I honestly didn't expect it to be anything special at all. Boy was I wrong! I went to work washing up some potatoes for dinner, and when I made the first slice my jaw just about hit the floor. Never in my life have I been able to cut up potatoes that quickly and easily! I was sold!

I tried out my knife on several other types of vegetables, and all were much easier to cut up with the Shenzhen Knife than they are with the chef's knife I normally use. The only exception was carrots. They may have been a little easier to cut, but not a huge difference.

In a nutshell, here are my personal pros and cons about Shenzhen Knives:

Pros:
  • Extremely sharp; makes quick work of cutting up vegetables. (If you don't believe how sharp it is, I can show you a picture of the holes I found in my dishrag after I washed the knife! Gotta remember to be careful about that!)
  • Easy to clean; food does not dry onto ceramic the same way it does to stainless steel. I purposely let the vegetables sit on the knife all night long, and they washed right off the next day.
Cons:
  • Although I have not personally experienced any problems yet, the packaging states that care should be taken with ceramic knives. If too much force is applied, it could snap. You can be careless with a stainless steel knife, and I don't think it's going to break on you.
  • At $34.95 for the 6" chef's knife, you could say these are a little pricey. But if you cook a lot and need something that will save you a lot of time and energy in the kitchen, I'd say it's a fair price.
Buy it:
