TheHomestead Company Diaper Rash Kit and Baby Balm (Review)

My son is not necessarily prone to diaper rash, but when he gets one, he gets a bad one. I have not had much success with using the standard diaper rash creams on him, so I was looking for something different to try. I was thrilled when The Homestead Company sent me their Diaper Rash Kit to review. The kit contains a bottle of Diaper Rash Oil and a bottle of Baby Wipe Companion. (These products can be purchased separately too.)

The first thing I did when I received the package was take a look at the ingredients. The Diaper Rash Oil contains nothing but essential oils including Aloe Vera oil, Emu oil, Kukui Nut Oil, and Tea Tree Oil. I don't know anything about Kukui Nut Oil and Tea Tree Oil, but I know Aloe Vera oil and Emu oil are both very soothing to cuts and burns. I assumed they would be soothing to a diaper rash as well. The first time my son got a diaper rash, I tried the Diaper Rash Oil on him and his rash was gone by the next morning! I also loved the fact that this comes in a spray bottle so that I didn't have to make his rash hurt worse by rubbing something on his skin.
Oh, and I almost forgot! Another cool feature -- the bottle states that this "can also be used on minor cuts and abrasions as a soothing antimicrobial." (Pardon me for a minute while I spray some on my son's hurt finger...)

The claim on the Baby Wipe Companion is that it "freshens baby's bottom and prevents diaper rash." I have been using the Baby Wipe Companion for him on every diaper change and he has not gotten another rash since. I don't know if it's because of using the Baby Wipe Companion or not, but at the very least it does make him stay "fresher" between diaper changes. The Baby Wipe companion contains nothing but essential oils as well . I love the fact that I can actually read the ingredients and they're not some mysterious I-have-no-idea-what-that-is-but-it sounds-like-a-bunch-of-chemicals.

I was also sent some Baby Balm to try out, but "unfortunately" I have not needed to use it yet. Again, the ingredients are all natural, consisting of essential oils and beeswax. The Baby Balm is supposed to help in the healing of yeast and bacterial rash, and I can tell by its thickness that it will provide a great moisture barrier. I know I'll be glad to have it on hand when the need arises.

After trying out these products, I think their prices are more than reasonable. The Diaper Rash kit is $14.99, and the Baby Balm is $7.49. For products with all natural ingredients and that work well on my baby's skin, I am more than willing to pay these prices.

The Homestead Company also sells a variety of other baby products as well as skin care products for adults. You can take a look at their products here.
