Kraft Dressing Moneymaker at Food Lion

This week (through June 1) Food Lion is having a promo on Kraft products. When you buy 5, you'll get $5 off instantly at checkout. Kraft dressing is the best deal and actually is quite a moneymaker!

Here's how to work it:

  • Buy 5 Kraft dressing on sale for $2 each (they are actually ringing up $1.67 at most stores)
  • Total = $10 or $8.35
  • Minus $5 instant savings = $5 or $3.35
  • Use 5 $.55/1 coupons from 5/2 Smartsource or here (There were $1/2 tearpad coupons around recently too)
  • Total = $2.25 or $.60 plus you'll get back a $3 catalina to use on your next order!

If you have enough coupons to buy $30 worth of dressing, you can also submit for the $10 rebate that came with the free sample pack from Kraft!

Look around your store for coupons for $2 off produce when you buy 2 Kraft dressings and you'll get free produce to boot!

Parent's Choice Formula Will Save You a Bundle!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

I didn't know about these until today, but I think they're pretty nifty! Did you know that the Parent's Choice website offers a Formula Finder and a Savings Calculator for parents? I don't formula feed my baby, but if I did I would be using the Formula Finder for sure! There are so many options for formula, and it seems like it would be difficult to know which one is the right choice.

The Formula Finder asks 3 questions, and as you answer the questions it narrows down your choices so you'll know which formula to choose!

The Savings Calculator shows you how much you will save on formula as opposed to purchasing the leading brands. As I said earlier, I don't formula feed, but just out of curiousity, I ran a couple of calculations. I was amazed to see that the savings can be as much as $600 per year!
My conclusion: If I formula-fed my children, I would definitely use Parent's Choice brand! The money saved could be applied to other necessary things...like diapers, clothes, and all those other baby expenses!

What are your thoughts on saving on formula?

Peter Rabbit Organics (Review and Giveaway)

Peter_Rabbit_Organics
If you enjoy having healthy, convenient snacks for your child, then you will LOVE Peter Rabbit Organics!

Although Peter Rabbit Organics is a British-based company, their products have become so popular that they are now available in the US as well.

I was sent a case of their 100% organic fruit pouches to snitch from give to my little boy. He loved them!
The pros:
  • The pouches contain 100% organic fruit, giving me a healthy snack option for Little Bear.
  • The pouches do not contain added sugar and aren't diluted with water. Pure fruit is all you get!
  • The pouches were easy for him to handle without creating a big mess.
  • The taste was delicious! (Yes, I did try them!) The texture was similar to applesauce. They come in Mango-Banana-Orange, Apple and Grape, and Strawberry and Banana. My favorite was the Strawberry and Banana.
The cons:
  • Buying these all the time could get a little expensive. They sell for $16.50 per 10-pack on Amazon.com right now. I have seen them go as low as $1 per pouch, which I think is a fair price for organic convenience food.

Buy it:
Peter Rabbit Organic Fruit Pouches are sold in stores all over the U.S. as well as on Amazon.com. Find your nearest store here.

Win it:
One reader will win a mixed case of 10 Peter Rabbit Organic Fruit Pouches.

To enter: Leave a comment and tell me which flavor you think you would like best. Be sure to include a way for me to contact you if you win!

5 Fun Family Vacation Activities Your Kids Will Love

Whenever I think of vacation, my frugal self always has to think of ideas that are not only fun, but that are the least expensive as well. It is more than possible to have a fun family vacation without going into debt to do it. My parents certainly understood that. Our family was always on a tight budget, yet I have so many great memories of the things that I loved doing on vacation as a kid.

These are my top 5 favorite fun (and frugal) activities, in no particular order:

1. Tubing
My brothers and I had so much fun going tubing down the river. There is almost no cost involved other than the gasoline to get to the river and the price to rent a tube if you don't have one. If you prefer to spend a little more, you can go rafting instead. Both tubing and rafting can be done on as rough or as calm of a river as you prefer.

2. Camping
This is a great way to have affordable vacation lodging and let the kids have some fun all at one time.

3. Hiking
This activity is totally free depending on where you go. Look online to find hiking trails in the area you wish to hike. You'll find information about how long and strenuous the hikes are. This way you'll know which trails are appropriate for the ages of your children. Kids will enjoy getting their energy out and exploring nature along the way.

4. Historic Sites
Visit a local historic landmark. Many are free, and those that charge usually only charge a small fee. Though they may not admit it, the kids will enjoy learning, especially if you go to a place with hands-on activities or battlefield re-enactments.

5. Playgrounds and parks
Pack a picnic lunch and let the kids enjoy a day at a playground that is new to them. It will be free for you and fun for the kids!

Use the internet to research before you go. The kids will NOT have fun if you spend all day in the car driving aimlessly hoping you'll find a great park or hiking spot.

Your kids can have lots of fun without your wallet feeling a pinch. Spending time together as a family is what makes family vacation fun. Participate in these activities with your kids and they will have the time of their lives!

Find more fun vacation activities from other bloggers here.

Harris Teeter Super Doubles

Time to get those coupons organized! Harris Teeter will be having Super Double Coupons May 19 - 25. Coupons with a face value of up to $1.98 will be doubled, with a limit of 20 per household per day.

I have posted the match-ups in a Google Document which will allow you to sort the list according to your own preference - by price, insert date, or aisle of the store.

-The Master List is what will come up when you initially click on the link to the document. This is what you want to look at if you keep checking back to see if I've added anything new. Anything new that has been added to the list will be at the bottom of the Master List spreadsheet. ( I may or may not have time to add them to the other lists.)

-At the top of the spreadsheet you will see options to sort by price, by coupon source, or by aisle.

  • If you're the type that likes to shop according to what will be the cheapest, you'll want to sort by price. The list is sorted by the least expensive to the most expensive.

  • If you like to file your coupon inserts whole and only cut out the coupons when you need them, you'll want to sort by insert. The coupons are listed in order by insert date with printable coupons and other sources included as well.

  • If you want to print out a list for the store, you can sort by aisle to make your trip through the store go a little faster.

-Any price with an asterisk beside it is presently on sale, but may or may not be on sale next week. I can't predict the future, so please don't get mad at me if it's not on sale during triples week!
Click here to view the document.

I will be adding more deals as the week goes on, but please feel free to leave a comment if you find any deals not listed.

10 Creative and Affordable Vacation Ideas

Since we will be leaving in a few days for a trip to Wisconsin for a wedding, I have been brainstorming a lot about how to travel frugally. Gasoline, hotels, eating out - it all adds up so quickly! Here are 10 creative ways to save on those expenses.

1. Explore options other than hotels. Rather than paying nightly hotel charges, we have made arrangements to rent a time-share that is owned by a friend of the family. We will be paying just a little more for a full week's stay than we would have paid for one night at a hotel.

2. Purchase gift cards for gasoline and restaurants on ebay. Although gift cards usually aren't sold for much cheaper than the actual cost of the gift card, utilizing a cash back portal makes the total come out cheaper. For example, ebates gives between 1% and 3% cash back on ebay purchases. If I buy a $50 gift card for $49, I'll still have saved a tiny bit once I get my cash back in my ebates account. Occassionaly, you can get up to 20% cash back from Bing. Receiving 20% back is a significant savings.

3. Use accumulated points from Mypoints to pay for more restaurant gift cards. It was almost no effort to accumulate the points, and I'll be getting free gift cards out of it! (Read more about Mypoints here.)

4. Purchase Restaurant.com gift cards from my Swagbucks earnings. (Read more about Swagbucks here.)

5. Pack homemade snacks so we can get by with purchasing as little fast food as possible while we're on the road.

6. Opt for free activities. Go for a hike in the woods or a picnic in the park. Those activities provide quality family time and are just as much fun as expensive admission to amusement parks or other attractions.

7. Who needs souvenirs? Don't spend your money on souvenirs that will only collect dust until the next yard sale. Spend money only on what you need and skip the rest. If you must bring something home, buy something useful, such as an article of clothing, rather than a knick-knack.

8. Stop at the state's Welcome Center and pick up brochures. You'll often find coupons for local attractions and restaurants.

9. Cook your own meals. While I do enjoy eating out on vacation, it can be quite expensive to do so for every meal. If you stay in a cabin or a hotel with a kitchenette, you can cook your own meals and save a bundle.

10. When you do eat out, go during the lunch hour. Prices from the lunch menu can be almost 50% less than those from the dinner menu.

For more frugal travel ideas, check out the Twittermoms discussion here.

I wrote this blog post while participating in the Toyota Sienna and TwitterMoms blogging program for a chance to get a $30 gift card. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Enjoy a Night off From Cooking with Freschetta Pizza

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Freschetta. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am not a big fan of frozen pizza, but the Freschetta FlatBread pizza looks so appetizing that I was willing to give it a try. I was not disappointed!

I was impressed with several different aspects of the pizza:

  • The pizza actually cooks in the time noted on the package! I have tried out many different brands of frozen pizza, and nine times out of ten I have to cook the pizza much longer than indicated on the package. I was so happy that when we heard the timer "ding", I did not have to disappoint my family by telling them their pizza wasn't done yet!
  • I did not get a headache. Most of the time I eat frozen pizza I get a headache (what do they put in that stuff???), but I did not get a headache after eating Freschetta.
  • It tasted delicious! I was actually surprised at how good it did taste. And I'm a hard one to impress when it comes to frozen pizza.
